Our Fishing Techniques
Drop Line Fishing
This fishery was very much pioneered by our own company when, in 1977, our fast fishing vessel the Melicent, was the first vessel to fish year round for Blue-Eye Trevalla.
We developed the type of gear used and the method of setting it, and the main grounds in the South East of the state were found by Martin Beck and George Mure, the two skippers of the vessel at that time.
A Drop Line normally consists of the following: a Dan Buoy and Marker Float attached to the Drop Line, attached towards the bottom of the Drop Line is approximately 100 Snooded Hooks set about one metre apart, at the bottom of the drop line there is a heavy weight or anchor. Drop Lines are normally placed along the edge of the continental shelf or near sea mounts, they can be set on a rocky bottom.

Long Line Fishing
The Mures fishing vessels The Diana and The Kiella; are dedicated auto long line boats set up for demersal fishing.
The gear shown below targets Pink Ling and Blue-Eye Trevalla other species caught include Shark, Ocean Perch and Ribaldo Cod. While at sea the fish are gutted and bled before being placed in a saltwater ice slurry, chilled to 0°C before being packed in sea ice giving a top quality product.
