The Kiella
The 53 ft, 60-tonne fishing vessel Kiella was purpose built as a scallop boat in 1981 during the 'scallop rush'.
Mures bought her and remodified her with drop line gear in 1993 to catch Blue-Eye Trevalla for Mures Fish Centre. She has been a magnificent boat and has fished as far abroad as the Gascoyne Sea Mount some 600km east of Eden with huge success, catching much and riding out terrific storms.
The Kiella Punching Through a Wave
During one of these trips William Mure experienced one of the worst trips of his life, while enduring eighty knot winds and huge seas a freak wave smashed one of the wheelhouse windows before the crew were able to bolt on the protective shutters. With almost no electronics and no way to cook a hot meal or boil water to make a coffee some 620km offshore in storm-force winds, William had to use traditional navigation methods to make his way home.

Will at the Helm During One of The Kiella's Calmer Days
In 2002 William installed a Mustad Auto Long Line System on the Kiella and the boat is presently fishing around Tasmanian’s coast for Pink Ling and Blue-Eye Trevalla.
We have a new skipper in the makings Gerald started as a deck hand, then worked as a leading hand under Russell Potter on the Diana, he is in the process of completing his Skipper’s Ticket at the Australian Maritime College and will be skippering the Kiella in the future.
